When it comes to social media, it’s all about timing. Don’t forget to circle these dates on your calendar this November.
Saturday 1st November
November is World Vegan Month, so show off your best vegan recipes and cruelty-free fashions. By 2020, it is predicted that 55%1 of the population will follow a mainly vegan lifestyle, as public interest and education has picked up at rapid speed in recent years – make your mark now and you could be at the forefront of the industry by then.
Wednesday 5th November
Make this Bonfire Night one to remember by treating your customers and staff to a stunning fireworks display. Create a hash tag for the event, display it around the venue and you could get your brand trending on Twitter.
Thursday 6th November
Fellas, get in the kitchen because it’s Men Make Dinner Day. How about getting male employees to cook lunch and show off the results for your foodie followers on Instagram?
Sunday 9th November
For Tongue Twister Day 2014, create a jingle with your company name in it and challenge your followers to reel it off without getting tongue-tied. Now, that’s what you call word of mouth promotion!
Tuesday 11th November
At 11am on Remembrance Day, hold a Two Minute Silence in honour of those affected by conflict. Don’t schedule any social media posts during this time.
Wednesday 12th November
Whether you’re a professional architect, or if you just work in a really cool building, invite the planet to marvel at your surroundings on World Architecture Day.
Friday 14th November
Tonight, the Children in Need appeal will air on BBC One. Gather colleagues and customers to raise money for the cause – if you’re an illustrator, you could even draw some Pudsey bears and donate the money you earn.
Saturday 15th November
Today is Guinness World Record Day, wherein record-breaking attempts chosen for filming can be included in the newsreel and displayed across the globe. Think outside the box (or well above eye line) if you really want to make an impression – the latest achievement was for the world’s highest advertisement at 452 metres, displayed on the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is the tallest building in the world.
Monday 17th November
Road Safety Week begins today and runs until Sunday 23rd November. This year’s theme is ‘look out for each other’, and as an employer, there is plenty you can do to look out for your staff, their families and the wider community. You could hold a fundraising event to raise money for Brake, a charity that helps crash victims, or you could hold workshops in local schools.
Tuesday 18th November
Celebrate your founder on Entrepreneurship Day. Telling the story of how your company started can really get conversations started, and could even spark some new business partnerships.
Wednesday 19th November
Do you work in customer services? Have a day off from saying ‘have a nice day’ because today is Have A Bad Day Day. See how many new phrases your staff can coin.
Thursday 20th November
Today is Name Your PC Day. Run a Facebook competition to find the best name – put a computer up for grabs for maximum audience participation.
Friday 21st November
National Maintenance Week runs from now until Friday 28th November. If you have a plumbing company, you could run a marketing campaign incentivising your audience to finally get that central heating looked at, or if you are a tool manufacturer, try running some special offers to help the nation build their DIY toolboxes.
Saturday 22nd November
Whether you sell bikes, cars or skateboards, Go For A Ride Day is your time to motivate. Don’t sell wheels? Maybe your product can make a journey better – snacks and music are essential travel buddies after all.
Monday 24th November
On Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day, you’ve got a chance to really sell the skills festering within your company. Do you have an awesome web designer? Promote them on your website or take them on a pitch today.
Tuesday 25th November
There’s exactly one month left until Christmas, which means it’s Shopping Reminder Day. E-tailers, get that email campaign out today!
Saturday 29th November
This one will scare retailers – it’s officially Buy Nothing Day. Developed countries, which account for 20% of the world population, consume over 80%2 of the Earth’s natural resources, and today is about challenging that. If you have a really good Green policy, make your audience aware of it, because customers are increasingly choosing to shop exclusively with environmentally friendly businesses. If you’re really brave, you could switch your ecommerce site off altogether for the day to show your support for the cause.
Sunday 30th November
Invite your customers to update their personal information and passwords on Computer Security Day. It’ll help them keep their data safe and is a chance for you to reassure visitors to your site that you operate a secure platform.
