Peter Richman: Entrepreneur of the year

Plug and Play is proud to announce that our very own managing director and founder of Plug and Play has been nominated for the coveted Entrepreneur of the Year Award at this years Net Awards 2014. The award will recognise a single entrepreneur whose business has made an impact in the web design and development industry.

Peter founded Plug and Play Design at the age of 21, in his parents’ spare bedroom. Designing websites and brands had always been a hobby to Peter, who started working life employed by Surrey Police. Now, in 2014, Peter employs 20 members of staff centrally and has franchised Plug and Play to 22 locations across the UK, making Plug and Play design one of the largest web design agencies in the land!

A great business idea

2008 is known as the year the global financial collapse peaked, it is also the year that Peter Richman really decided to ‘plug’ Plug and Play. Even though the financial and business world was collapsing around him, Peter managed to gain market traction.  He managed to sail through the transition point from having ‘just a great idea’ to actual customer acquisition and validation, during a period where people were losing jobs and businesses were being made insolvent.

Plug and Play doesn’t just sell websites; they provide small businesses with a complete digital marketing package that so many lack. It is this, which sets Plug and Play apart from other web designers.  Peter understood from the get go, that for businesses it is more then getting a new website, investing in digital marketing correctly, can pay huge dividends in new customers, maximised operational efficiencies, increased sales and an online digital footprint that makes an impact. This could ultimately be the difference between success and failure.

Making an impact in the industry

Plug and Play has around 75 separate jobs on the go at any one time, each project is assigned a ‘huddle’. These ‘huddles’ are made up of an account manager, a marketer, a graphic designer and a developer. This unique approach to digital marketing ensures that each client receives the best service possible from the amalgamation of experts Plug and Play provide.

Peter regularly commissions white papers and research all to ensure that Plug and Play is constantly innovative and reactive to the changing beast that is web design and digital marketing. He adopts the philosophy that if you are not reactive, you run the risk of becoming irrelevant to all but your most ardent of supporters.
