Don’t be a social media cliché this February.
Whilst your competitors spend the duration of the month filling their timelines with love hearts and Valentine’s wishes, you can start some interesting conversations with your followers. Simply jot down the dates that take your fancy and pop them in your social media calendar.
1st February
Sometimes, you’ve just got to admit when something isn’t working, and there is no better time to cut those ties loose than on Dump Your Significant Jerk Day. This doesn’t necessarily have to involve a lover – perhaps your PR agency is not getting you the exposure you signed up for, or maybe you want to sway potential customers your way, so tell them to ditch your competitor and give you a call instead.
2nd February
World Wetlands Day presents the opportunity to appreciate the wonderful, natural parts of our world that ducks, geese, frogs, water voles, flamingos and all other sorts of animals need to thrive. Today, support the charities that work so hard to preserve these areas by donating a percentage of your sales to the cause, or partner with a local wetlands centre to increase public awareness, starting with your customers.
4th February
It’s Thank a Mailperson Day, so how about putting together a testimonial to post on your delivery service’s Facebook review section? When it comes to social media B2B communications, positive engagements are usually reciprocated, so you may find that you’ll be rewarded with a great appraisal in return.
6th February
On Doodle Day, collect all those idle sketches that staff draw whilst on the phone or in boring meetings – there may be some real gems amongst them with the potential to go viral.
National Doodle Day supports the work of Epilepsy Action, who have a number of starter packs for schools, workplaces and community groups that want to run a doodle event. The annual competition costs just £1 to enter (which goes to the charity), with cash prizes of up to £175 to be won for the best doodlers, plus a number of celebrity illustrations can be bid on at auction.
9th February
If you’re a writer or a plumber, you’re in luck, because it’s Read in the Bathtub Day. You could run an Instagram competition wherein the best snap (featuring your book or plumbing, of course!) is rewarded with a pampering hamper.
Today is also Clean Out Your Computer Day, which is a prime chance to show off your IT team. Have them attend to any slow running systems and tweet your business partners with a heads up to do the same.
11th February
White Shirt Day marks the end of the union strike by employees of General Motors in 1937. Commemorate their fight for fairer working conditions by encouraging your employees to wear a white shirt to work today and unite with companies all across the globe via the #WhiteShirtDay hashtag.
12th February
Today, the social media realm will be buzzing with Darwinism, as the world celebrates the birth date of Charles Darwin (1809-1882). Create a blog post of the evolutionary scientist’s best quotes for Darwin Day and it may go viral.
13th February
Inject some humour into your social media profile on Blame Someone Else Day. Heard some hilarious fibs from your colleagues when they’ve been late to work? Tweet those classic one-liners throughout the day and see how many retweets you get! Just remember, the idea is to have a bit of fun, so don’t post anything that will offend.
14th February
On National Donor Day, use your social media page to save lives by highlighting the plight of those in need of blood, marrow, tissue and organ donation. You could even give your employees the morning off to donate blood.
16th February
‘Innovative’ is quite possibly the most overused adjective applied to service or product descriptions… So, we challenge you to prove you mean it on Innovation Day. Both YouTube and Vine videos are a great way to bring your words to life and demonstrate exactly how revolutionary your inventions are.
22nd February
Next up is Cook a Sweet Potato Day, the tastiest and most nutritional day on our calendar this month. If you run a café or restaurant, incorporate this vitamin rich crop in to your dishes today, upload the drool worthy pictures to Instagram and Pinterest, and get ready for the lunchtime rush.
24th February
Research suggests that multitasking can be inefficient as focus is diluted and completion takes longer to achieve. Single Tasking Day is about embracing one mission at a time, so make a priority list today and work your way through it. If you’re a B2B company, this is a great tip to tweet to your clients and partners too.
28th February
Open That Bottle Night is about enjoying those cherished bottles of wine, champagne and spirits. Perhaps you could send something fancy to your clients today, or you could even host a party to spoil your clients with the bottles you have stored away for a special occasion. In the run up to the event, send out social media invites to gauge numbers and build anticipation.
