According to the MillwardBrown: 2014 BrandZ top 100 report, Google has now replaced Apple on the top spot. It was then followed by IBM, Microsoft and McDonalds. McDonalds is the only ‘non-tech brand within the top five, which highlights the impact the digital revolution has had on consumers and how they have gained trust into these tech brands.
Apple have held the number one position for the last three years, but have finally been taken over by Google. Apple have lost 20%of their trading value year by year, falling to $147,880m; whereas Google’s value is now $158,843m which shot up a whopping 40%.
So how did Google take over Apple? It seems that Google is a whole lot more than just a search engine, it is now a technology company which is having a huge impact on people using it’s services on a daily basis. The boost in its ranking this year comes from the introduction of Google Glass, which is a wearable computer with an optical head-mount display.
Benoit Tranzer, the head of Millward Brown stated that: “Google has been extremely innovative this year with Google Glass, investments in artificial intelligence and a range of partnerships, All these activities send a very strong signal to consumers about the essence of Google,”
