Marketers and Brands have got to get behind the underused Google+ platform if they want to rank higher in Google’s search results.
With 300 million active users per month according to a new Infographic “How To Become A Google+ Wizard”, Google+ now sees the highest volumes of traffic per day across all social platforms at over 1.2 million visits per month. It may seem that Google+ has flopped compared to other social networks such as Facebook, but users shouldn’t view it as “Googles version of Facebook” at all. Google+ expert Martin Shervrington states that Google+ “is bringing people together within the context of many of Google’s services.”
Google is using Plus to incorporate social signals into their search results algorithm, this means profiles, posts, links and social signals will all be incorporated into future rankings. Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman from Google included in his book ‘The New Digital Age’ that “Within search results, information tied to verified online profiles will be ranked higher than content without such verification, which will result in most users naturally clicking on the top verified results.”
This means that brands need to realise that engagement on Google+ is a new form of SEO, and the best way to rank higher in their search results is to follow people to get their content shared across the platform.
