Web Accessibility & W3C Web Standards

At Plug and Play Design we believe in it, we do it. Simple.

Whether you like it or not the Internet has made the world a smaller place. In terms of web accessibility this has opened up numerous opportunities for businesses and individuals. The playing field has been levelled, enabling anyone to anyone to be seen and be heard. The lone entrepreneur can compete with the big boys and regardless of location, disability, or time difference; everyone can have a voice.

It cannot be argued that the web has enriched millions of lives and the key contributing factor to this has been the use of accessibility-compliant code. The future possibilities are endless.

Every business should be aware of web accessibility. It not only ensures your site can be seen and navigated by the widest audience possible it also means you're probably nicer people to do business with.

Accessibility? Why bother?

  1. We believe that, regardless of all the papers and policies, fundamentally it is simply the right thing to do
  2. Everyone should have the same opportunities and equal access to information
  3. It makes good business sense - people with disabilities use the web, and have money to spend
  4. Furthermore check out what the disability discrimination act has to say.

When you get a website built by Plug and Play Design, you will get a website that takes web accessibility seriously and ensures you will not only be compliant with current laws regarding accessibility, but that everyone can visit and buy from your site.

Semantic XHTML

Semantic XHTML is extremely important when it comes to making an accessible web page. How easy would it be for someone to find their way around your website if they were blind and using a screen reader? We endeavour to make sure that all the pages we create are developed semantically so that people with disabilities can still benefit from all the same information as everyone else. This website has been developed to WAI-AAA standard: Meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. It is important, it does need to be done, and with a website from Plug and Play Design you will get a semantic standards compliant website.

Web Standards

Web standards are set out by the W3C and exist to ensure that the relevant web technologies are being used correctly. A W3C compliant website is much more likely to appear correctly in future browser versions. The XHTML 1.0 icon at the footer of this page shows that our code is standards compliant.
